Joan Frye Williams

Main Content

Joan Frye Williams has retired!

From 1996-2016, Joan Frye Williams was an independent consultant focused on re-imagining libraries for a changing environment. Her specialities included innovation, technology as it relates to human behavior, the importation of new techniques from other disciplines into the library field, and the service needs and preferences of non-library "civilians."

Joan had the privilege of working with and learning from librarians across the U.S. and around the world. Her many clients included libraries of all types and sizes, library consortia, state library agencies, professional library associations, library boards, library vendors, architects, and elected bodies such as city councils and boards of supervisors.

Joan was best known as an acute--and sometimes irreverent--observer of library practices, issues, and trends.
